What to Expect During a BLS Course

BLS Training | By Meet Melissa Hofstra

Basic Life Support (BLS) training gives participants the knowledge and practical skills needed to respond to life-threatening emergencies. At Cyadaze, our BLS blended learning courses combine self-paced online learning with hands-on, instructor-led classroom training.

What Is a BLS Course?

BLS training focuses on essential lifesaving skills and emergency response techniques. The blended format allows you to complete the learning and assessment portion online before attending your classroom session.

This approach gives you the flexibility to learn at your own pace while ensuring you have dedicated time for hands-on practice with an instructor.

The BLS Course Has Two Parts:

1. Online Learning

The first part of the course is completed online at your own pace.

You'll have access to learning resources, instructional videos, activities, knowledge checks, and an electronic assessment.

Before attending the classroom session, you must successfully complete the required online portion.

2. Instructor-Led Classroom Training

The second part takes place in person with your instructor.

This session focuses on applying what you learned online through practical training and skills practice. You'll have opportunities to:

  • Practice essential BLS skills
  • Receive instructor coaching and feedback
  • Participate in team-based scenarios
  • Work through realistic training situations
  • Complete comprehensive skills testing

What Should You Do Before Class?

To make the most of your classroom session:

  • Complete the online portion before your scheduled class.
  • Successfully complete the required online assessment.
  • Arrive on time.
  • Wear loose, comfortable clothing suitable for hands-on practice.
  • Be prepared to participate in activities involving kneeling, bending, standing, and lifting.

If you have a physical condition that may affect your ability to participate, inform your instructor before the class so appropriate accommodations can be discussed within the course requirements.
